Solar panel problems you haven’t thought of yet
May 30th, 2009 . by adminSolar panels seem a quick fix to rising energy prices. One installation, and you get free power forever. What are some potential problems that the media isn’t telling you? 1. Solar panels absorb heat as well as energy. If you put them on your roof, they may heat up your house while powering it. In a cold climate, this is great. In hot areas, it is a net negative. 2. Can your roof support the weight of panels? You may need structural reinforcement before putting on solar panels. 3. There are solar panel roofing shingles. This initially seems to be a cost savings, since you don’t have solar panels as well as shingles. However, your home insurer may not agree with you, and raise your home owners’ insurance for roofing repairs as a result.
