The beautiful Wauwinet
January 13th, 2012 . by adminI recently took my summer vacation with a destination of the island of Nantucket, and we couldn’t have made a better choice! We stayed at the Wauwinet, recently named the top hotel in MA. It was so quaint and decadent, yet also lush and luxurious. The Wauwinet itself was nestled in an isolated part of the island, right on the harbor. With sprawling green overlooking the blue water, it was simply breathtaking. Town could be reached by car or boat.
The island was just as appealing. Town was quaint with cobblestoned streets and high end boutiques. People flurried by in their cute summer dresses, linen clothes, and resort wear. There was not a mall, McDonalds, or Dunkin Donuts in existence. It was a refreshing break from the over-commercialization back home. I found the cutest store that I can’t imagine finding anywhere else. It was vintage clothes in pristine shape, Lilly dresses from the 60’s, DVF, etc. However it also featured vintage wines, it was a great theme and an interesting combination.
Outside of town there was plenty to do. Biking across the island, visiting Bartlett’s Farm (with the best tomatoes!). We found this brewery which was awesome. It had wine, beer, and liquor but was ironically a family atmosphere. Dogs and kids were running around, a local musician was playing, and it seemed the entire crowd had just arrived from the beach.
The beaches were absolutely amazing. Surrounded by dirt roads instead of cement, you could find a spot with no one in sight if you wanted. Simply breathtaking. I would definitely recommend both the island and the Wauwinet.
