Job Functions of a Radiology Assistant

August 13th, 2009 . by admin

There are three main job functions that a radiology assistant (RA) must perform. Primarily, they serve as a patient advocate to make sure the patient receives the proper care in the radiology department; following along these lines, a RA will is also responsible for making sure the patient has consented to treatment and is properly prepared for the procedure, as well as answering any questions the patient may have. Secondly, the RA will perform the scheduled radiology procedures be they x-rays, CT scans or MRIs — depending on the type of exam, the RA may perform these procedures without a radiologists supervision. Finally, the RA is often responsible for assessing image quality, making observations about what the image shows and informing the radiologist of these preliminary findings.
