Want to Improve Your Memory? Exercise More
August 29th, 2009 . by adminWhen most people think of exercise, it is usually in the context of physical improvement. The idea is to exercise the body to make the body stronger, faster, and more resilient.
Surprisingly, though, certain types of exercise also strengthen the mind. In particular, research suggests that high-intensity cardiovascular exercise can actually improve your memory!
While this might sound strange at first, it makes perfect sense. You memory is obviously located in your brain; and your brain has certain requirements to function optimally.
For example, for the brain to work at its best, it needs to receive an adequate supply of oxygen and other nutrients from the bloodstream and waste materials need to be removed.
The key to most of these requirements is adequate blood flow. It turns out that regular, intense cardio exercise such as biking, running, hiking, etc. can provide this. These activities improve blood flow to the brain, help keep arteries clear of constricting plaque, and even help new blood vessels grow in the parts of the brain responsible for memories.
If you want a better memory, get out there and exercise!
